Ella Maillart (20/02/1903 – 27/03/1997)

A photographer and writer, in 1939 she set out from Geneva with Annemarie Schwarzenbach. The two reached Kabul after a six-month car journey through Yugoslavia, Turkey, and Iran. Once in Afghanistan, Maillart she continued on alone to India. The account of this long journey would be published in the book The Cruel Way.

Fotografa e scrittrice, nel 1939 parte da Ginevra con Annamarie Schwarzenbach. Le due raggiungono Kabul dopo sei mesi di viaggio in auto, passando per la Jugoslavia, la Turchia e l’Iran. Una volta arrivate in Afghanistan, Maillart prosegue da sola fino in India. Il resoconto di questo lungo viaggio viene pubblicato nel volume La via crudele.
